Jeewanthi wins first place at the first ever Asia Pacific Tea Sommelier contest

Ms Jeewanthi Adhikari from Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, was adjudged the winner at the first ever Asia Pacific Dilmah Tea Sommelier and Cocktail Competition, held at the Colombo Hilton with 17 contestants from 17 countries. The contestant from the Maldives won the second while the contestant from Japan won the third place.

The competition was highly exciting and closely contested with participants from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India and the Maldives.

Each competitor, within the allotted 20 minutes, had to prepare three varieties with tea as the base ingredient: Tea Cocktail, Tea Mocktail and a perfect Hot Tea.

A girl from Anuradhapura and studied at Swarnapali Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Anuradhapura, Adhikari joined the Hotel Taj Samudra as a trainee 3 ½ years ago and now has risen up to be a Restaurant Captain and her specialty is Food and Beverages area. She is also following a course in Food and Beverages at the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management.

Her ambition is to study, gain more and more experience, locally and in abroad and to rise up to be a manger in the trade. She said “Taj Hotel is the ideal place to learn and rise up as the Hotel Management provided everything to win this prestigious competition.
