Green Tree Offers Great Tea Staples

Ceylon Estate Pekoe Black TeaTea News Direct Exclusive Review

We’ve recently tried a few offerings from Green Tree Coffee & Tea and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their teas. They’ve got a classic range of loose leaf teas with fine examples of many of the great tea staples from China, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Their loose teas are available in bulk or by the pound. They have an attractive range of teabags, again available in bulk or smaller quantities, and great pyramid tea sachets.

Green Tree’s Loose Leaf Tea Selection is available at Buy Tea Online and we recommend that you take a look. In particular, their Darjeeling FTGFPO1 Black Tea, one of India’s most famous teas, is a product of genuine character. The Jasmine Pearls are good value, whilst the China Magnolia Oolong Tea is a high-grade tea for a very reasonable price.

The whole Green Tree range is worthy of exploration as they offer many of the world’s famous teas - the standout Chinese green and black teas, Formosa oolong, Assam, Darjeeling and Chai teas from India, Ceylon estate teas, the list goes on. Hugh Jackman – aka Wolverine – to be the face of Lipton Ice Tea

The Guardian UK by Mark Sweney

X-Men star signs up with drink firm

Hugh Jackman in Lipton Ice Tea

Hugh Jackman, the actor most famous as the testosterone-fuelled Wolverine in X-Men, is to show his softer side in a global advertising campaign for Lipton Ice Tea. Jackman, who also played the rugged stockman Drover opposite Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, has signed a three-year deal to front a multimillion-pound campaign, the first he has starred in outside his native Australia.

The European marketing director for Lipton Ice Tea, Francois Bazini, said that it was Jackman's singing and dancing performance as a host at last year's Academy Awards that convinced the company to sign him up. “He has a great personality liked by men and women,” said Bazini. “He is very different from many other actors. He is a true entertainer who can dance, sing and act. We will use all of his skills.”

Starbucks converts Tazo tea bags to full-leaf tea sachets

Seattle Times By Melissa Allison

Starbucks Melody was onto this last fall, and now a company spokesman has confirmed that in October, Starbucks began converting its Tazo tea bags to a new line-up of full-leaf teas. During the transition, some stores have run out of the old variety but not yet received the new stock. Besides coming in sachets that are better for brewing, Tazo teas are using better quality (and harder to find) whole tea leaves, spices and botanicals. Most of the blend flavors will stay the same, with a couple new ones being added in January.

A Look at Tea Gift Sets and Tea Samplers

Tea News Direct Exclusive: Buy Tea Online’s Richard Fray looks for the perfect tea gift.

Time for a little last minute Christmas shopping? Just about…

We’ve added hundreds of new products to Buy Tea Online over the past few months. With the holidays upon us, it seems a fitting time to review some of the tea gifts on offer this season.

Mind you, these tea gifts are not only suitable for any occasion, they’re also rather nice to treat yourself with, so the timing isn’t that relevant. Tea samplers are a great place to start if you’re new to tea, giving you the opportunity to try different varieties and begin to discover your favorites. The more experienced tea drinker can have fun with samplers too, by exploring one type of tea more extensively or trying teas they might not otherwise drink.

We’re just going to look at loose leaf teas here, but there are plenty of teabag gift sets and samplers out there as well.

6_tins_giftboxStarting with the bargains at under $20, we found some very reasonable prices for surprisingly good teas. My pick in this category are the high quality tea samplers offered by Adagio Tea, presented in smart tea tins and gift boxes. We’ve picked out a few below:

Green Tea Sampler (Adagio Teas) $14.00 - A wonderful introduction to the wide range of green teas. Each sample makes about 8-10 cups of tea, and includes: gunpowder, sencha overture, green pekoe, pi lo chun, citron green and vanilla green teas.

Herbal Tea Sampler (Adagio Teas) $10.00 - The wide range of herbal teas are explored here. Each sample makes about 6-8 cups of tea. This set includes: berry blues, lemongrass, mango melange, peppermint, rooibos jasmine and sour apple.

no_riskIngenuiTEA Gourmet Tea Set (Adagio Teas) $19.00 - Adagio’s most popular gift item combines an easy-to-use teapot and four samples of their best-selling teas. This ingenious teapot makes loose tea easy to make and the teas are a great introduction to a delectable world of gourmet tea. Dishwasher and microwave safe. 16oz (0.5L).

In the mid-range, $20 – $60, we found several ways to get a high-end tea selection. Here are a couple of great samplers of the finer white and oolong teas:

Wuyi Oolong Tea Sampler Set (The Tea Farm) $25.00 - A personal favorite of mine, and at a very reasonable price, this set from The Tea Farm includes four 2oz packages of the famous WuYi mountain teas: Big red robe, Shui Jin Gui, Tie luo Han, and Shui Xian. Yum!

White Tea Sampler (Culinary Teas) $38.85 - This is perhaps the best way to try a group of different white teas. You get four 1oz bags of Adams Peak Rare White Tea, Pai Mu Tan White Tea, Leopard Snow Buds Tea and Sowmee White Tea.

EGSTEWORLD08_dThere are some really beautiful gift boxes containing genuinely good teas in this range, my favorites in this field being the Teavana offerings:

World Tea Collection Gift Set (Teavana Teas) $59.95– This worldly collection has been compiled for the well traveled tea connoisseur with globally inspired flavors. Set includes 2oz each of White Ayurvedic Chai, Kuki Matcha, Emerald Bamboo Forest and Kamiya Papaya Oolong as well as four reusable Origami tea tins. A great gift set for a tea lover!

Tea Lovers Tea Gift Collection (Teavana Teas) $59.95 - The Tea Lovers Collection includes 2oz each of four premium teas: rare Frutto Bianco white tea pearls, a timeless Dragonwell green tea, the relaxing Tranquil Dream herbal tea blend and Six Summits, a handcrafted artisan oolong. Also includes four reusable Origami tea tins. Beautifully gift boxed.

EGSJMEMP08_dOver $60and you’re getting into some really nice gifts and treats for yourself. Here’s another superior Teavana Tea gift box:

Emperor’s Collection Tea Gift Set (Teavana Teas) $79.99– Honor yourself or a loved one with this luxurious collection of fine teas. It includes six gold embossed tea tins containing the finest teas from ancient gardens in China: Jasmine Phoenix Eye, Lung Ching, White Mao Feng, Mao Jian, Da Hong Pao, and Tai Ping Kui. Four green teas, one white and one oolong. They come in a beautiful gift box as well.

For sheer quality of tea, my overall favorite loose leaf tea sampler is from the company we buy a lot of our personal tea from, Generation Tea. If anyone wants to buy me a tea sampler, please make it this one :)

Royal Tea Collection (Generation Tea) $106– This is a showcase of some of Generation’s finest teas. Each tea delivers distinct flavors and subtleties that only the highest grades can offer. This is great gift even for the advanced tea fan. Nine amazing teas: 2 oz Royal Organic Longjing Tea, 2 oz Jasmine Pearls Green Tea, 2 oz Royal Tieguanyin Oolong Tea, 2 oz Organic Winter Leaf Oolong Tea, 2 oz Royal Loose Leaf Pu-erh Tea, 100g Pu-erh Tuocha, 2 oz Royal Formosa Baozhong Tea, 2 oz Keemun Black Tea, 2 oz Formosa Green Jade Oolong.

259033And if you want to really push the boat out, take the Tazo Deluze Tour:

Tazo® Deluxe 3 Month Tea Tour $125– Each month, your hand-selected whole leaf teas arrive in a signature gift box accompanied by tasting notes to help you enjoy the month’s selections. Shipping is included, and the first month you also receive Bodum’s Assam Tea Press, a practical and easy-to-use tea maker that infuses the most delicious aromas, and a set of two Bodum Pavina Double Wall Tea Glasses.

In all, we’ve listed 66 different loose leaf tea samplers and gift sets on Buy Tea Online so you should be able to find one to suit your needs. Whether it’s a gift for a loved one or a treat for yourself, tea gift samplers are fun and practical for tea lovers everywhere.

Enjoy!

Rare Taiwanese Tribute Tea Released in US

SAN FRANCISCO: Red Circle Tea announces the exclusive release of one of the rarest teas in the world, Tribute Red Jade #18.

This tea was hand picked and completely hand-processed in a Taiwanese monastery and took over 100 man hours to make. The monastery farms organically, and tea plants are fertilized using only soybeans and honey. The tea represents the revival of ancient hand processing methods that were replaced with the introduction of machines.

The tea plant Red Jade #18 is unique. Unlike Taiwanese teas which are generally grown and processed as oolongs, Red Jade #18 is a red tea (completely oxidized tea leaves), made from grafting Burmese Assamica to a Taiwanese native tea plant. The prefix of  “Tribute” is added to the name to indicate that the tea was made in tribute to the art of hand processing.

Tea lover brews perfection

Entrepreneur develops steeper to ease preparation of beverage.

Press-Telegram

LONG BEACH — Brewing loose-leaf tea can take an elaborate setup, according to Mei Tung, of Long Beach. Her tea set sits on a large, hand-carved wooden tray and includes small, ornamental porcelain dishes. Most hold dried tea leaves of different varieties; others are for steeping them. She poured boiling water into one of the steeping dishes. Water dripped from the kettle and ran in thin streams around the tray. After a moment, she removed a perforated ceramic basket holding the tea leaves from the hot water and poured it into tiny cups. Again, the tea dripped from the dish’s lip and wet the tray.

“Because we’re tea lovers, we really wanted to design something for tea lovers who travel so they can enjoy their favorite tea on the road,” Tung explained as the tea steeped. So she began producing the Perfect Steeper, a small, portable device that brews loose-leaf tea.

The Eight Cranes Perfect Steeper is available online from Amazon.com

EXCLUSIVE: Tea comparison website relaunched

Buy Tea Online comparison website

A website comparing more than 1000 varieties of loose leaf tea, teabags and teawares was relaunched last week. Buy Tea Online, which opened its doors in 2005, has been completely redesigned to make it easier for tea drinkers to find the right products, first time.

“With whole sections dedicated to green tea, white tea, oolong tea, black tea, pu-erh tea, flavored tea, herbal tea, tea gift sets and samplers, teapots, accessories and more, there’s sure to be something for everyone” said spokesman Richard Fray. “We’ve recreated the site as an online catalog, enabling our visitors better access to a much larger range of tea and tea-related products” he added.

Buy Tea Online, and its sister site, Buy Loose Tea, have become increasingly popular with tea drinkers, wholesalers and industry insiders alike. Whilst Buy Loose Tea is restricted to loose leaf teas only, Buy Tea Online covers a whole range of tea-related products. Fray explains the reason behind this:

“There’s a world of difference between the casual tea newbie wanting to try some raspberry flavored teabags and the genuine connoisseur looking for this year’s Wuyi Rock Oolongs, so both websites are designed to cater to different audiences. Buy Tea Online has a more general feel, featuring teabags, teapots, kettles and other products similar to what you’d maybe find in your local supermarket, as well as an extensive range of loose leaf teas. Buy Loose Tea only features loose leaf teas – no teabags, no accessories, no distractions, just top quality whole leaf tea.”

“And what a selection we have! Comparing products from great online retailers such as Adagio, Generation Tea, O-cha and Culinary Teas side by side with big-name brands like Celestial Seasonings, Stash and Yogi, we think Buy Tea Online is the ultimate method of selecting which teas and teawares to purchase on the internet. It couldn’t be simpler or more effective.”

Fray continued: “We plan on adding to the range over the coming months. It’ll be hard to find enough products of the required standard for us to feature, but we’re looking around and hoping to increase the number of products on the site to maybe a couple thousand.”

The site is looking for more tea retailers to team up with. “We’ll only work with top quality retailers, and the products must already be available for sale online.” said Fray.

Buy Loose Tea, and its sister site, Buy Tea Online, have become increasingly popular with tea drinkers, wholesalers and industry insiders alike. Whilst Buy Tea Online covers a whole range of tea-related products, Fray explains the reason behind restricting the range of Buy Loose Tea.
